I Think I'm Weird

At least in comparison to my peers at Kaplan U. My children are grown. I'm not married. My "boyfriend" has been on again, off again for years--so obviously I'm not going to rattle on about what a great guy he is, although he has his moments. Point being, I don't write about family life. Or school for that matter, trust me they all know about that subject.
As I get older, I seem to get farther from the norm (you know...usual, expected, run of the mill). I have an aunt who is referred to fondly as "eccentric". We have a lot in common. The reason she's eccentric and I'm just weird? Ecccentric people can afford to be that way. If you can't afford the lifestyle, you're just weird!

Well, this week's been real (a) frustrating, (b) irritating, (c) fun, (d) fubared, or (e) all of the above except (c). Just a little wordplay there. :-)

I moved out of the place I was living at the end of April, leaving my furniture and some of the pets with my roommate. Now, said roommate is moving. Here comes the part that relates to the question above: roommate has no job and no transportation. Since I still have stuff in the house, guess who gets to help out (A LOT!). The furniture, dishes, linens, etc... are in a storage unit in town. I have one dog and two cats with me. There are two cats at the old location. I'm hauling around the other dog, trying to find him a home. Yes, I am (a) frustrated and (b) irritated, because said roommate gets a new start and I get stuck holding the bag. That's one of the reasons I moved out to begin with.

Lastly, with all of the logistics, financial concerns and running around, homework is not getting done. That brings up the final answer describing this week, (d) fubared. Big surprise, huh? Sorry to be such a drag. At least I have a sense of humor about it all. I hope things are progressing well for the holidays for everyone else and that you all have a wonderful, and relaxing, Christmas. Anybody want a really cute little dog?

I'm reading comments from Theresa and Kathy and remembering past christmases. It all sounds perfect, very Norman Rockwell. I've been there, done that. Now I feel as though I live in a bubble. I can see out, but most people can't see in. (What that means is that I understand what's happening in other's lives because I've experienced it myself. I don't expect others to understand what's going on in mine.)

Things have changed soooo much in the last 15 years that...well, my life is kind of surreal. I wonder how the young mothers in my classes will be in 25 years. The holidays are for family, I wasn't able to be with mine so I improvised. I won't say what I did, but it involved london broil, not turkey. I know I'm in my own little world, but that's okay. They know me here. ;- )

"Wordplay" A play on words, a pun, a double entendre, a whimsical association.

Examples: A newspaper headline reads "Police begin campaign to run down jaywalkers."

A road sign warning denoting work between lanes "Medium Work Ahead"
Remember, this is the guys with the orange vests, maybe it is medium work.

Uncyclopedia says "if there are any unintentional misunderstandings of the true meaning, I hope you won't hold it against me."

I intend to have fun with this blog. Hope you enjoy it too!
